My Professional Passions

The mind map that I created consists of six main categories, aside from my dream career and passions. The first category is my “big WHY?” My “why” is the driving force behind my career goals and overall life goals. At the end of my professional journey, I want to be a director or someone who holds a high leadership position in the events industry because I want to feel accomplished in my professional portfolio. Along with that, I want to be an individual who is able to create, plan, and execute events that bring people together while promoting positivity. The second category in my mind map is "network," which involves building and maintaining relationships with people in the industry who can offer guidance and support. My current network, outside of those in my personal life, consists of my classmates in school, peers in student organizations, along with professors, who act as my mentors in my academic career. And at work, I have a large network of coworkers and leaders across many departments, since the company is big. My network can help me achieve my goals because I have a better chance of accessing certain information, resources, and opportunities.

The third category is "experience," which includes past and current job positions, internships, and volunteer experiences that have helped develop certain skill sets. In my mind map, I wanted to highlight the two jobs that I currently have, which include being a floral design assistant at Parker and Posies and most recently a front desk agent at the Rancho Bernardo Inn. From these jobs, I have been able to learn the ins and outs of the hotel industry along with the events industry. The fourth category is "execution strategies," which are the steps and actions that one takes to achieve their career goals. For me, it is important to stay focused and in the present, so to take a step further in my career journey I would like to just gain exposure to other areas of the hospitality industry, move into different departments at work, and graduate from school. The fifth category is "ideal company," which is the type of company that aligns with one's values and has a positive impact on the community. I think it is important to strive to work for a certain company that shares the same values and beliefs as you do because it ensures that you are a good fit for the company culture. The ideal company that I would like to work for is one that is reputable, has a strong sense of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and offers many opportunities to grow vertically and horizontally. And the last and sixth category is "the ideal professional self," which is how one wants to be perceived by others in the industry. My ideal professional self can change as I encounter other great leaders in the industry, but right now I want to be a professional who is inspiring, skilled, and dedicated to the job.
